Change One Paper/Stamp Bill to Online Bill Pay

You know that time of the month when you finally realize you forgot to send out that special payment by mail? Well, chances are that could be taken care of by using an online bill pay feature that is probably offered for free at your bank. Try that, and start with just one bill to keep it simple. If you like it, add more. The Earth is hugging you a little bit closer for each one you do.

Signup to Not Receive Junk Mail (www.dmachoice.org)

This one is too easy, and it makes our lives so much better. All you do is go to www.dmachoice.org to get on the list to stop receiving all that crap in the mail. In the long run you don't have to open all that mail just to throw it away, less chance of having somebody fill it out for you, and you help make a greener earth.

Solar Umbrella House

This sun-powered home was inspired by Paul Rand's 1953 architecual dream. The main feature of the house is the solar canopy, which tranforms sunlight into electricity, and simultaneously shades the occupants from direct exposure to southern California's hot sun. No electricity is required to light the home during sunny days, and solar water panels keep the showers hot. The home won an AIA Committee on the Environment Top Ten Green Project for 2006, and remains a model for modern green architecture.

Convince One Peer to Signup With Green Groove

Seriously, the more the merrier. Education and awareness is what Green Groove is all about. We all know those people who think a hotter planet means tropical vacations in Alaska is a good thing. Well, bonus points for signing one of them up. If not, just convince somebody you know who is trying to make a difference, but doesn't know how and where to start. Go get 'em!

Wear An Article of Clothing at Least Twice Before Washing

If you are one of those people who put on a shirt and pair of jeans late in the day, and then throw them in the dirty clothes pile a few hours later, ask yourself how dirty they really are. Does worn for a few hours really mean dirty, usually not unless you went swimming in a mud puddle. Just fold them back up, and put them on a couple days later, for a few hours. Add a couple extra swipes of deodorant though ;-) You'll be doing half as much laundry, and we know how much energy that takes (from you and the power grid).

Acquire One Houseplant

Borrow a start from a neighbor, plant a seed, or dig one up someplace (with permission). Put it inside your home to offset carbon, and make your house more enjoyable.

Insulate Your Hot Water Heater

They say if you touch your hot water heater and it is warm, then it is leaking heat (energy). Just wrap some old insulation, or blanket, around it with some duct tape. It'll save on energy, and keep bills lower.
